Non-Grain Oriented Electrical Steel

Non-Grain Oriented Electrical Steel, also called non-oriented silicon steel, is a soft magnetic material with random grain orientation, delivering isotropic magnetic properties (uniform permeability/low core loss across all directions) for rotating or variable magnetic field applications.
Composed of iron-silicon alloys (1.5–3.5 wt% silicon, which boosts electrical resistivity to reduce eddy current loss), NOES is manufactured via simpler processes than grain-oriented steel (GOES): after hot rolling, it undergoes cold rolling (to 0.15–0.5 mm thickness) and recrystallization annealing—no strict texture control is needed, lowering production costs.
Key traits include moderate magnetic permeability, balanced core loss (higher than GOES but suitable for mid-high frequencies), and good punchability, making it ideal for rotating electrical machines (asynchronous motors, generators), home appliance motors (AC compressors), and small/medium-frequency transformers.
