Medium-and High-carbon Wire Rods
Medium-and high-carbon wire rods are hot-rolled steel products with carbon contents ranging from 0.25% to over 1.0%, designed for applications requiring high strength, hardness, or wear resistance. They are categorized as:
Medium-carbon steel: 0.25–0.60% C, offering a balance of strength and ductility. Examples include AISI 1045 and 1060.
High-carbon steel: 0.60–1.0%+ C, known for extreme hardness and tensile strength (up to 1240 MPa in grades like G3V80) .
These wires are often referred to as “hard wires” when carbon content exceeds 0.45%, emphasizing their resistance to deformation.
